Chief Information Security Officer, FS-ISAC
John Denning is the Chief Information Security Officer at the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC). Denning owns the internal cybersecurity and risk management functions within FS-ISAC. In addition, he works across the sector to curate and disseminate critical baseline cybersecurity practices, including helping to bring learnings from the most mature cyber defense programs to the entire sector.
Prior to joining FS-ISAC, Denning worked within Bank of America’s Global Information Security (GIS) organization for 11 years. He held roles as Cyber Crimes Advisory Services Executive within GIS’s Cyber Crime Prevention Team; Global Access Management Operations Executive; Cyber Readiness and Resiliency Operations; and, the Bank’s first Cyber Threat Intelligence leader. His teams were instrumental in conducting operational activities, as well as developing and implementing end-to-end cyber threat crisis response frameworks, risk identification and mitigation, best practices, and governance routines. Denning also led external cybersecurity policy development that supported the Bank’s and the sector’s network defense efforts.
Before coming to Bank of America, John served as the Director of External Affairs for the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Cybersecurity and Communication. In addition, he was a congressional staff member for 11 years, specializing in cybersecurity and telecommunications issues for national security policy, strategic planning, and cyber counterterrorism.
